One way to make consumers anticipate a product more is to leak bits of information, and even pictures even before it’s released. Whether it’s the work of the company itself or just an avid researcher, the response can go either way. Thanks to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, companies get early feedback and this allows them to make more tweaks to get their product market-ready come its official release date.
The Taiwanese brand HTC is no different. Even before its flagship unit, the HTC One came to be, much speculation has been flooding websites. And when it finally came out, it became one of the few smartphones that were considered at par with the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy series. However, things have slightly changed in the recent news reports, specifically about the HTC Zara. Read more to know more about the device, and why analysts view this as a not-so-smart move for HTC.
Before July came to a close, rumors have circulated about HTC’s two new models. Well, actually, they were not rumors since HTC did say that they will be releasing two new models this third quarter. In fact, they even named the two gadgets – the T6 and the Zara. But given the experience with HTC One, the company may just be bluffing with the gadget’s names. They may just be using these code names to create a spur without actually leaking information out.
Online spectators are quite convinced that the T6 is the codename for the HTC One Max, the company’s entry into the phablet (phone + tablet) market. That’s right; HTC is working on 5.6-inch screen phablet to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Sony Xperia Z among others.
HTC Zara: An Update to HTC One?
If you will remember, HTC did smirk off Samsung’s use of plastic for body for their smartphones. But it seems like HTC has changed their stand on the material since it has been rumored that they will use plastic for the next generation HTC One, which was later coined as the HTC Zara.
Currently, leaks and speculations have created a set of specs for the mid-range device. Yes, many believe that since the HTC Zara will have an all-plastic body, it will be a budget phone. Aside from the plastic body, another indicator is the qHD (960×540) 4.5-inch display. Inside, it will be equipped with the 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, 8GB internal storage with expandable memory and a 1GB RAM. Its camera was first expected to be low-end at 1MP but recent sources that it’s actually going to flaunt 8MP. The battery is also believed to be at 2100mAh. As for the software, predictions have been upped to the latest Android 4.3 and HTC Sense 5.5.
Similar Phones: Wrong Move for HTC?
On top of the speculations mentioned above, sources also talk of an HTC Zara Mini which is rumored to have been passed through the Chinese FCC equivalent recently. Given the model name HTC 301e, the Zara Mini shows to be less powerful with 4.3-inch screen and 512 MB. Contrary to the 8MP camera of the Zara, the Zara Mini came out with a 5MP camera.
Analysts are pessimistic about HTC’s move to introduce many yet highly similar models in the market. Some even compare it to RIM, the creator of the Blackberry that seems to be on its sunset phase. Some even say that HTC is putting its money into the things that bring them financial trouble to start with.
Since its first offering, I have been fond of HTC. And with the HTC One doing a wonderful job of running business apps like RingCentral and OfficeSuite alongside personal apps like Instagram and Candy Crush, I am hopeful the company’s plan will keep the brand afloat. Otherwise, history will just repeat what happened to Nokia and Blackberry.
