Microsoft unveiled two new tablets Surface 2 and surface 2 pro. Company had announced both these tablets to ramp up in mobile market after the frailer of its first tablet last year. Both the surface 2 and surface pro 2 has been improved much from its predecessors and comes with a better battery life, good processing power and a sharper full HD display. The looks of these both tablets are not changed very much but many new functionality has been added which makes it better like new power cord that improves its battery life by almost 50% and new Docking station which makes it much comfortable to use on table as a Desktop. Microsoft also tried to improve the main complain of surface that was the built-in kickstand which was difficult to use when propped on your lap, in these new tablets kickstand has a position that can prop the tablet up at a 55 degree angle which is better than 22 degree angle present in the surface. These tablets are much identical to the previous one but we are expecting them to be much better than the previous one.
The Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 comes with Tegra 4 and Intel’s Haswell chips and the Surface 2 as well as Surface pro 2 has the same 1080p ClearType display which is 40% brighter and much sharper then that used in Surface. The screen on both new models remains at 10.6 inches, measured diagonally.
The Surface Pro 2 comes in many variation upto 512GB of storage space and 8GB of RAM. Both these tablets now support USB 3.0. This is all because of Tegra 4 and Haswell chips that both tablets pack a lot more in the way of computational and graphical processing power as compared to other tablets in the market. Surface 2 runs Windows RT 8.1 while Surface Pro 2 runs latest Windows 8.1.
According to Microsoft both the tablets comes with a better battery life. Surface Pro 2 now last almost 75% longer than the previous one. The new models come with a better built-in kickstand so that users can easily use them on the lap. Microsoft is also providing a docking station to use the tablet as laptop and a wireless mouse for business customers who need the mobility of tablets as well as the traditional ways of using computers while in the office.
"We've definitely gotten a year smarter," Brian Hall, general manager of sales and marketing for Surface, said in an interview.
Surface Pro 2
After taking a look at the specification of this Surface Pro 2 it seems that this time Microsoft had targeted at professionals who want power of a laptop in a handy device like Tablet. The starting price of Surface Pro 2 is $899, and as it runs on the full version of Windows 8.1 so, you can run all the programs of windows in it.
The cheaper model means Surface 2, offers just 25 percent improvement in battery life. This tablet comes with Windows RT 8.1 which means that you can run only those apps which are made especially for it, however company claims that it now has over 1 lakh apps which is 10 times of that present in last year. Microsoft had included a version of its Office software for free in the Surface 2.
The Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 will come with 200 GB of free SkyDrive storage space for two years, as well as free calls and Wi-Fi hotspots through Skype for a year. The new tablets will go on sale Oct. 22, Keyboard covers will cost extra: $120 for a Touch Cover 2, which has printed touch keyboard on the surface and $130 for Type Cover 2, which have keys like a normal keyboard. A new Power Cover with a built-in battery to increase battery backup will cost around $200 and it will be available by next year. A $200 docking station also will come out early next year and will work only with Pro models, including the older one already out. Hall said Microsoft chose not to make the Pro 2 smaller so that accessories would be compatible.
